Garlic with a lack of snow can freeze, it is necessary to mulch the soil. In the warm season, Lyubasha needs a sunny place, in the shade this variety does not develop well. But when fulfilling agrotechnical requirements it gives excellent yields. Significant minuses are not called.
Where can I buy planting material?
Ready-made planting material for Lyubasha garlic is purchased on any open marketplace: in an online store or from individuals. On average, garlic per planting (not commercial) costs from 500 rubles per kg. On farms they sell 1 kg of bulbs for 200-300 rubles. (farms in Belgorod, Tver, Tula regions, Moscow region, etc.).
If you buy garlic bulbs for planting, the product will cost an average of 1000-1500 rubles per kg. Bulbs are also sold piece by piece: from 10 rubles per 10 pcs. (for example, in stores near Moscow). The cost of an elite product is many times higher.
Garlic planting time
Lyubasha is planted in the fall and belongs to winter varieties. Suitable for planting are seed-bulbs (air), grown in the second year of single-tooth or ripened heads. The optimal landing period is called October (until mid-November), a few weeks earlier than the first frosts. This time is enough for garlic to get used to the street conditions. If garlic is planted in the spring, this is done until mid-April - they put the material in the earth moist after the snow melts.
Lyubasha takes root well in different climatic zones - both in the south and in the north. Suitable for small farms in the suburbs. It is advisable to choose planting material in the area where it is planned to be planted.
Choosing a place and soil
The best place for a garlic bed is a flat, sunny, windproof plot, it is not located on a hill or in a low ground, since in the first case the bed will freeze in winter due to lack of snow, and in the second it will melt water in it in the spring. The soil garlic Lyubasha prefers loose. Take root after:
- cabbage;
- pumpkins or watermelons;
- legumes;
- greens.
Soil preparation
Lyubasha is not demanding on the soil, but still the gardener needs to prepare the soil for planting garlic:
- dig the soil qualitatively, giving it airiness;
- loosen at a depth of about 30 cm;
- remove in the process from the earth all garbage, stones, grass;
- Dig grooves 2-3 weeks before the intended planting, add the necessary fertilizers: natural and industrial with potassium or phosphorus;
- thoroughly water the wells 2-3 days before planting.
Material for landing is also inspected for defects. Only good non-sprouted bulbs, bulbs are selected. Garlic cloves are taken from the trilobar heads. It is recommended to soak them for 30 minutes in potassium permanganate for disinfection.
Step-by-step landing instructions
Winter garlic is sown in rows with an interval of 35-45 cm. The step between plantings, since Lyubasha is large garlic and it needs a lot of space. The holes are deepened by 5–9 cm. As a rule, wood ash is poured onto their bottom and the whole row is poured with warm water. Next planting material is placed.
Landing pattern:
- Teeth and odontodes deepen by 7 cm or more.
- Buns have a depth of 4-5 cm.
Cloves planted in pits are sprinkled with soil. Furrows are not watered, but covered with spruce branches, straw, sawdust, peat or thin branches (i.e. mulch). This is especially true for regions with a harsh climate, otherwise garlic may not survive the winter. The covering material is removed when the snow melts.
Caring for Lyubasha
Garlic care includes regular watering, weeding, and top dressing.
Watering regularity
The regularity and abundance of watering is determined by the temperature and the ripening period of the garlic. From the first days of April until the third decade of June, when the garlic sprouts young shoots - arrows, beds are abundantly moistened so that the soil does not dry out. In summer, you can reduce watering to 1-2 times a week. A pale green leaf color may indicate an excess of moisture.
The ripening period of Lyubasha is 3 months after the first shoots. Two weeks before the final ripening, irrigation is completely stopped so that the land dries. This makes harvesting easier.
Top dressing
It’s good for Lyubasha, like other types of garlic, to get all the necessary substances from fertilizers. In spring, garlic is fertilized with urea, diluting 20 g of the substance in a bucket of water and irrigating the beds by sprinkling. For 1 square. m area should be used up to 4 liters of the drug. If the feathers grow slowly, you can add bird droppings to the urea (a glass of 10 liters of water).
Top dressing combined with watering. Their regularity is as follows:
- Urea spring fertilizer.
- The second feeding after 2-3 weeks. Mineral fertilizer (nitroammofosk) is diluted in 10 liters of water - 2 tbsp. tablespoons of substance.
- The third - during the formation of the bulb. Phosphate fertilizer (superphosphate) is used. The expense is the same.
Weeding and other manipulations
Timely digging of garlic beds is the key to plant health. Through loose soil, moisture and air enter the roots and bulbs. During loosening, weeds are removed from the beds. Weeding is carried out after watering, which facilitates the work of the gardener.
In addition to weeding garlic, such manipulation as pruning arrows is useful. When shoots appear in June and reach a length of 9-11 cm, the arrows pinch off. Some of them are kept by farmers for the use of bulbs for planting. If you plan to leave the seeds, you must wait until they are fully ripe.
Diseases and Pests
This type of garlic is resistant to many diseases, but it risks becoming infected with a fungus during the growing season. For prophylaxis purposes, presowing cloves soaking, spraying the grown plants with fungicides, and removing damaged specimens is recommended. Lyubasha is resistant to Fusarium, but is susceptible to the negative effects of other pathogenic microorganisms and pests.
Microorganisms | Pests |
downy mildew | stem nematode |
bacteriosis | crypto |
black mold | root tick |
neck rot | onion bug |
onion fly |
